OUR STORY

The first time Nettie and Renford met was in a laundromat. Renford wanted to talk to Nettie, but all she wanted to do was wash her clothes. 

Years later, they met again in September 2013, Labour Day weekend. They were both attending a back-to-school barbecue party. Renford asked his friend about Nettie, inquiring about her name. The friend encouraged him to talk to Nettie, and he did. Renford asked for her number, but had no luck. Nettie told him, “If it’s meant to be, we’ll meet again.”

Sure enough, the two did meet again. Their friend was holding an event, and told Renford that Nettie was going to be attending. They both attended, and Renford once again struck up a conversation with Nettie and asked for her phone number. She said no for a second time but took his number instead. 

Nettie then waited 2 weeks to call Renford, but once she did, they could not stop talking. They would talk on the phone every day, for hours. And every single one of those days, Nettie looked forward to those calls.

In 2014, they made their relationship official and started dating. Renford would cook for Nettie every week. She would also go over to his house, and they would eat together. Nettie states food as being one of their love languages, as they oftentimes cook and barbecue together. 

At this point, Nettie’s kids Deedra and Shay did not know about the relationship. Nettie waited about 6 months after they started dating before then bringing Renford into their lives.

Now, 10 years later, Nettie and Renford have decided to make their life together official. They will get married July 13th, 2024. Despite not yet being married, they feel they have already lived so much life together. They have been together through thick and thin, through better or worse, and through sickness and health. 

Most recently, the couple went on a trip to Jamaica together – which was their first ever trip together.
